TUPAIA

16 Tuesday, June 2020

Today I have been learning about The Story” Tupaia, I have been reading, reading, reading all about it and
it was an amazing experience.
A Man of mana
Tupaia was born on Rā‘iātea – the second-largest island in East Polynesia – around 1725. He was from a
high-ranking family and showed talent from a young age. Because of his gifts, Tupaia was chosen to train
with the ‘Mario – an exclusive group of priests, navigators, warriors, musicians, and artists who worshipped the war god, ‘Oro.
A prophecy

In the 1750s, warriors from nearby Bora Bora invaded Rā‘iātea. A local priest named Vaita went into a
trance
and uttered a prophecy. One day, more people would come – a different kind of people altogether.
They would arrive on a canoe with no outrigger and would change everything: “And this land will be taken by
them,” Vanita said. “The old rules will be destroyed.” Vanita's prophecy eventually came true. On 18 June
1767, a strange vessel was seen off the coast of Tahiti, where Tupaia now lived. The next morning, ‘arioi
priests paddled out to investigate. The boat was the Dolphin, a British ship searching for the unknown
southern continent. Samuel Wallis and his crew were the first Europeans the Tahitians had ever seen.

Time zone

BANG!!! WHAT A SURPRISING DAY WE HAVE HERE ABOUT TIME ZONE.
TODAY I AND MY CLASS WERE LEARNING ABOUT TIME ZONE.
TIME ZONE  IS LIKE WHEN YOUR CHRAPED IN A TIME BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY EARTH.
SO THE THERE IS ONILY ONE SUN AND FOR US THERE ARE DEFRENT DAYS SO THE EARTH SPINS AROUND TE SUN THAT MEANS THAT WE HAVE LIGHT AND NIGHT.
SO THE EARTH SPENS ANR WHEN WE HAVE LIGHT THE THAT MEANS THAT WE ARE FACING THE LIGHT WITCH IS THE SUN AND WHEN IT IS DARK THEN THAT  MEANS THAT WERE NOT FACING THE SUN.
IF YOU HAVE BEEN OUT OF SPACE THEN YOU HAVE SEEN STERS AND WHEN YOU IN EARTH YOU CAN ALSO SEE THE STARS BUT FROME DOWN IN EARTH IT LOOKS SO SMOLL BUT WHEN YOU UP IN THE  SPACE THE YOU CAN  SEE IT BIG.
WHEN YOU SEE THE STARS THEN THAT MEANS THAT IT IS NIGHT TIME.

WHAT DID YOU ENJOY!!

WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT TIME ZONE IN EARTH AND OUT OF EARTH!!
WHAT DID YOU FIND CHALLENGING DURING TIME ZONE!!

WERE ON EARTH

WOW!! TODAY I AND MY CLASS WERE DOING WERE ON EARTH.
TODAY I AND MY CLASS WERE SOLVING QWESHDENS ABOUT WERE ON EARTH.

1. WHY IT IS USEFUL TO BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY A LOCATION?
because if someone loses they can call someone where they are from there to address but if there is no address then you can call someone and tell them what it looks like from where you are or if someone is with you then you can ask them if they know where they are you can ask them some qweshdens.
Latitude and longitude are used to describe the position of any point on the surface of the earth.
Latitude and longitude are angles.
On the surface of the planet, the distance between two points that are 1 degree of latitude apart is approximately 111 KM.
There is a slight variation because the Earth is not a perfect sphere.

WERE ON EARTH

TODAY I HAVE BEEN READING A GOOGLE SLIDE AND IT WAS ABOUT WERE ON EARTH.
Polynesian peoples skilfully navigation across thousands of kilometres of the ocean using sophisticated navigation techniques. navigation skills were highly valued and were passed down orally, often by song. important facts have memorised the motion of specific stars and where these stars would rise and set on the ocean, weather conditions, times of travel, wildlife species and could formations on a particular island, the direction of ocean swells, colours of sea and sky, angles for approaching harbours.

DURING LOCK DOWN

captain cook

Today I have been reading a book called CAPTAIN COOK.
THE BOOK WAS ABOUT CHARTING OUR ISLANDS.
ON THE MAP cooks charts were published in 1773. Although they showed he hadn't found a great southern continent, his work still hades a huge impact.
The British now knew a lot more about the south pacific and what could be a hundred years, helped people travel safely from the other side of the world.

HOW DID COOK USE MATHS IN HIS CHART MAKING?
BY making a map and making line dots on the map so that whoever is going to find out what cook did during the past years.

WHY WAS MATHS IMPORTANT TO HIM
Because he could keep track of where he was and even were hi was traveling, what the time was when he was finding out the mystery of the world, to solve the mystery of the world.
cook need both latitude and longitude
to chart the island of New Zealand he need these to mark landmarks .cook would plot these on his chart these were important for him to do a running survey.
WHAT I ENJOYED
what I enjoyed was that you learn new things and that you can help others to learn about what you learned.
WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT CAPTAIN COOK.

WHAT I ENJOYED
What I enjoyed was that they were teaching me and my class all about new stuff like how to make you OWN Kahoot and what to call it and you can also make it about maths reading or even writing.

WHAT I FOUND CHALLENGING
What I found challenging was that you" I was making my own Kahoot but some times you can't always do it because you can keep trying.

HMS ENDEAVOUR

Today I have been learning about HMS Endeavour?
What I learned was that As the captain on three voyages of discovery in the late eighteenth
century, James Cook became the first European to define the outline of New Zealand.

Thanks to cooks' detailed charts and his gentleman passengers' scientific and artistic
documentation, Accurate knowledge of New Zealand was available in Europe for the first time
from the 1770s.
